Announcement

March 2024

Following the announcement of Seiwert’s appointment as Smuin Ballet’s incoming Artistic Director, the company decided to sunset on 3/31/2024.

“For 13 years, Imagery celebrated creative risk-taking and innovation through the SKETCH series. We premiered 37 new works, 27 created by women, worked with 47 SKETCH dancers and dozens of creative collaborators, and performed for over 7,000 people. To say that we were lucky is an understatement.”

SKETCH 13: Lucky - July 28-30, 2023
ODC Theater

SKETCH 13: Lucky featured world premieres by Artistic Director Amy Seiwert, Artistic Fellow Natasha Adorlee, Hélène Simoneau (2021 Choreography Fellow New York City Center), and Trey McIntyre (Houston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet).

SKETCH 13: Lucky invited four choreographers to embrace chance and create their own luck as they step out of their creative habits. What happens when we bring an element of chance into the choreographic process, challenging ASI's collaborators to flex their creativity and leading to new discoveries?

SKETCH 12: Dear Diary - July 15 & 16, 2022
Cowell Theater, Fort Mason Center for the Arts.

"It’s rare to have time and support for the kind of risk-taking Seiwert has championed with the Sketch series—and a privilege to witness." - Karen Hildenbrand, fjord

“How does looking to the past illuminate our way forward?”

SKETCH 12: Dear Diary presented three innovative new dance works exploring the bittersweet complexity of nostalgia. During a highly collaborative five-week laboratory, choreographers Amy Seiwert, Natasha Adorlee, and Joshua L. Peugh created new ballet-based work while participating in a “crit group,” a creative feedback process rarely seen in ballet settings. The result is three bold new works that welcome the choreographers, dance artists, and audience to take risks, shed old habits, and consider new perspectives. Read more about SKETCH 12.
