VIDEO IMAGES PRESS

At Imagery we believe that ballet is an expressive and vital voice relevant for our current time. We respect swans and sylphs, but they are not where the company’s interests lie. Through collaboration and experimentation we expand the definition of what ballet is and can be.

Amy Seiwert's choreography, set on prominent companies form coast to coast, has been seen by more than 60,000 people in 2015 alone.

REPERTORY:

WINTERREISE (2017)
Winterreise will be Seiwert’ first evening length contemporary ballet set to Winterreise, a piano and voice cycle by Franz Schubert to 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller. The dramatic monologue reflects the story of a wanderer who feels lost from himself and lost from the world. This ballet will explore the theme of going on a journey both internally and physically. Strong visual components by the design team of Brian Jones (visual design) and Sandra Woodall (costumes) will create a surreal environment that engages the viewer in an unexpected way. Seiwert will be looking at the stage in a more painterly way to support the narrative potential in the work.
Winterreise is commissioned by the Joyce Theater and featured in American Dance Abroad PitchBook. To premiere in July 2017. Watch Video Pitch

BACK TO (2015)
Amy Seiwert created selections of Back To for Cincinnati Ballet’s New Works Program in 2014 which premiered as Yesterday, Tomorrow. The work was expanded in 2015 via a commission from ODC Theater. Set to bluegrass music by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Back To is an example of creating a ballet that is accessible to a non-traditional dance audience due to a more popular music choice without sacrificing the quality of the work and the artistry.

WHITE NOISE (2011)
Originally created for Imagery in 2010, Amy Seiwert’s White Noise is a interactive ballet developed in collaboration with software artist Frieder Weiss. Seiwert wanted to explore the conversation between ballet and technology. In White Noise, dancers interact with video projections in real-time. The choreography and software systems were created synergistically, both art forms affecting the other.  The work is a great example of blurring boundaries between technology and dance.
